Practitioner Online Course: Secrets of the Foot

In order to meet Moshe’s ideal--that our skeleton serves to give us the experience of being weightless if we take advantage of ground reaction forces--Feldenkrais practitioners need to know how to optimize the contact with the ground while standing, sitting, and walking. It helps if we grasp how the arches of the feet are dynamically formed as we move from sitting to standing, standing to sitting, and in walking. With that understanding, we can become more specific with how we work with people’s feet as a part of FI lessons.

In this workshop, you will:

  • Learn how to help people with squatting, jumping and bearing weight;
  • Gain an understanding about the arches of the feet and how they are formed;
  • Learn how the foot moves relative to sitting and standing;
  • Understand how the talus glides for movement;
  • Learn how the foot provides support while walking;
  • Learn how movement of the foot directs ground forces up through the body;
  • Understand what the feet tell us about how a person uses their pelvis and carries their head;
  • Learn how to make transition movements from the feet in all directions, maintaining equal and opposite support while doing so;
  • Work with rollers to give specific contact with the feet to promote stable and secure standing;
  • Use your hands to promote your clients' foot contact with the surfaces against which they move.

Each class will have an ATM that accompanies the class material. To increase your understanding of the material, please watch this video in advance of the class.

As with any practice, we begin again, and again, and again.

To participate in this online class, you'll need a computer, Internet access, microphone, and webcam that meet the specifications listed here.

Attendees will receive a recording of the workshop.

Class participants are eligible for an extended early-bird deadline (August 6) to apply for the IOPS Academy graduate program, as well as a 10% discount on Jeff's "Learning Self-Organization Again and Again and Again..."
