FTA Talks: What is Competency-based Learning?

Join an online discussion with FTA Assistant Trainer Candy Conino, Educational Director Jeff Haller and other FTA staff about the new Feldenkrais Training Academy, beginning in Seattle in October 2018.

This month's topic: What is competency-based learning?

A central tenet of the Feldenkrais Method assumes that human beings have transformational potential and that all people, regardless of their age or condition, can learn. At the core of the Feldenkrais Method is a fluid and dynamic state of mind that fosters a process of inquiry rather than one that seeks to define solutions.

Years ago, the faculty of the Feldenkrais Training Academy set out to find superlative methods for developing students in their journey to become professional Feldenkrais practitioners. We extensively reviewed information on competence assessment and educational development. We concluded that reflection and intention are the necessary elements for all growth, development and learning. In educational programs, imparting knowledge and developing skills are necessary, but not sufficient, for all that we want to accomplish.

We have developed a competency-based curriculum to help create an educational environment in the training program that will enable students not only to develop competence in identified areas necessary for the Feldenkrais profession, but to aim for artistry. Read more on why competency is key.

We look forward to you joining us for some or all of these conversations.
